During the Tenpo era, a castle-shaped lantern modeled after Nagoya Castle was created, and it was so well-received that it has since been made annually. The original lanterns were 17.6 meters tall, but with the widespread use of electric cables, height restrictions were imposed, and at one point, they were reduced to 7-8 meters. However, with the undergrounding of electric cables, large lanterns were once again possible, and in 2013, the "Karoku" lantern, 17.6 meters tall, the same height as in the Meiji era, was revived. Karoku is named after carpenter Miyakoshi Karoku, who first created the castle lantern modeled after Nagoya Castle. The following year, in 2014, "Chikasue," named after Ando Chikasue, who ruled Noshiro in the Middle Ages, was completed.
