From the Land of the Steam: Considering the Ancient Indigenous Connection to the Greater Yellowstone

Yellowstone Park is well-known worldwide as America's first National Park and home to a vast array of geothermal wonders and other natural features that make it one of the most iconic natural landscapes on the planet. Yet, much less is known about the ancient and rich Tribal history and culture of the Yellowstone caldera zone and within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem in general. Synthesizing Tribal oral traditions with the archaeological data from Yellowstone ground excavations and ancient ice patches in the Beartooth Plateau, Dr. Shane Doyle will provide clearer insight into the remarkable lifeways of Native people who lived and thrived in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem for thousands of years.
