Alto Adige | storie da vivere | Un orto insolente - I segreti di Harald Gasser

You wouldn't know it from his smile, but Harald Gasser enjoys getting tired. And getting his hands dirty. Not metaphorically, but physically, working the land. Harald Gasser is a farmer who produces organic produce. Before becoming a farmer, he was a social worker. Until exactly twelve years ago, he decided to go it alone. He began growing rare vegetables organically. Through successes and failures, Harald gave up livestock farming and transformed his farm into a rare vegetable garden. When he inherited the family farm twelve years ago, Harald was barely able to tend his 15-square-meter field. In fact, often nothing grew, and there were even days when he was about to give up. Today, Harald grows four hundred different vegetable species on 3,000 square meters without chemicals. Its vegetables are the most sought-after by the most renowned chefs in South Tyrolean and Italian restaurants, who choose them because they're locally sourced.
