In much better sound quality, this is a great performance of most of the Act 3 of Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata by the captivating Brazilian soprano, Bidu Sayão, partnered with the excellent Charles Kullmann as Alfredo and the always impressive Leonard Warren as Giorgio Germont (live performance in New York, 1943). Sayão's Violetta is particularly wonderful due to her famously expressive phrasing and poignant way of making her small lyric voice sound achieve the most powerful dramatic effects. Her pianissimi, as always, are among the most beautiful and accurate I've ever heard (no wonder Rosa Ponselle once said that Sayão had the best pianissimi ever).
