I was heavily inspired by drummers Earl Harvin and Jeff Hamilton who I heard “make the drums sing”. Listening to them there was no doubt about what song was being played during a drum solo. I soon realized it was possible to get all 12 notes of the scale from the basic 4 piece kit I was using and went to work leaning some bird heads. Here is a recent version of Don’t take the G train from my UK tour in the fall.
