John Deere Backhoe Fuel Injection Pump Replacement

John Deere 310 backhoe is still getting diesel fuel in the engine oil. This time we are going to show you the DIY of removing the high pressure fuel injection pump to inspect the pump shaft seals and bushing in the pump for signs of damage and wear that could be the indicator to our failure. After inspection of the pump we found the seals on the shaft to be severely worn and the bushing inside the pump to be excessively worn with bad grooves causing high pressure fuel to push past the seals into the engine oil. We drained the oil and replaced the oil filter after replacing the fuel pump. Fuel in the oil causes the oil to thin out and cause premature wear to bearings inside the engine that can lead to catastrophic failure. During the rebuild of the fuel pump it was also found that the fuel shutoff solenoid was not fully disengaging which was causing the machine to randomly shut down.
