Early Retirement Campervan Roadtrip- Part 1: the Picos de Europa in Spain

Much to our embarrassment, we didn’t even know of the Picos de Europa until only a couple of weeks ago. Just over an hours drive from the Santander ferry, we found ourselves in the most splendid isolation high up in the mountains. We drove by cascading rivers, deep ravines and perilous peaks. We couldn’t have asked for a better start to our European road trip. Join us as we discover some of the best places to visit in the Picos National Park, Spain’s oldest National Park. We tackle the Ruta Del Cares, one of Spains best hikes, wild camp in stunning locations and have a healthy dose of culture visiting the Basilica de Santa Maria high in the mountains. We are Richard and Jackie and we live in the UK. Our plans for early requirement include relocating to the Yorkshire Dales, developing our forever home and travelling the UK, Europe and eventually the world in our VW campervan Nelson.
