Matting vs. Backgrounding Leather
In this video, Daniel Reach from the Leatherverse goes over the difference between matting and backgrounding. Matting compresses the leather in order to create additional depth in the design, while backgrounding adds texture to the background to make what's in the foreground stand out. Knowing the subtle differences between these techniques will allow you to enhance your designs with depth and texture.
