🏆 In nineteen fifty-eight, the Oscar for Best Screenplay went to the man who wrote the novel. Not the men who wrote the script. ✂️ Carl Foreman and Michael Wilson wrote The Bridge on the River Kwai. The Hollywood blacklist made sure their names were never on it. 🎬 Foreman was removed from the production mid-shoot after being placed on the blacklist. Wilson stepped in — also blacklisted. 📜 The Academy gave the Oscar to Pierre Boulle, who wrote the book but not the screenplay. Boulle accepted in French — he spoke almost no English. ⚖️ The writing credits were restored in nineteen eighty-four. The Oscar record was corrected in nineteen ninety-six. Both writers were already dead. 🔗 Michael Wilson also wrote Lawrence of Arabia and adapted Planet of the Apes — both covered on this channel.
