Vendre son sang : quand la pauvreté alimente l’industrie | Documentaire Complet HD

Plasma, a highly sought-after blood component, now costs more per liter than gasoline. Used by pharmaceutical companies to create expensive drugs, this precious liquid has become a highly lucrative commodity. The film investigates one of the largest companies in this thriving market, with profits exceeding €1 billion. Its donation centers are located primarily in low-income neighborhoods across the United States and pay donors for their blood, a practice banned in Europe. For poor Americans, blood donation has become a source of income that poses a real health risk, as they lie about their health and make repeated donations to make ends meet. Other donors give blood in the hope of helping others, but the destination of their donations may turn out to be somewhat different from what they had imagined. We investigate the global trade in blood and plasma donations. This documentary was produced by Point Prod and directed by Marie Maurisse, François Pilet, and Pierre Monnard. It was first released in 2017. ---- Regards sur le Monde offers exceptional documentaries from around the world. Discover faraway destinations and fascinating, virtually unknown cultures.
