Once every five years, the great ships of the world arrive, pushing slowly into the port as if out of another age. Tall masts cut the skyline; flags and rigging ripple in the breeze. Crowds gather along the water, drawn not only by the vessels but by the quiet wonder of watching them come in. This walk begins at the harbour. The sound of footsteps, voices, and gulls hangs in the air, layered over the deep notes of horns calling out across the IJ. We pass along the docks, among families, sailors, and wanderers, all pausing to look up at sails larger than houses. The ships stand still and proud, reminders of distant oceans and forgotten routes. There is no commentary, no music—only the streets, the water, and the people. This is Slow TV: a simple record of a city at ease with itself, and of a rare gathering that turns Amsterdam into a stage for the sea. The walk is shorter than most.
