WALKING in a DUTCH CITY: Tiel

Let's take a walk in the dutch city of Tiel, located in the province of Gelderland, situated on the river Waal. Tiel is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, dating back to the period 850-1100. The city was a trading settlement of international importance in the tenth and eleventh centuries. During the Second World War, Tiel was severely affected by fighting between the German occupiers and the Allies. Many buildings were severely damaged. In the years after the war, the city center was restored. Tiel has several monumental buildings such as the 17th-century city gate "Waterpoort", and the "Sint-Maartens church", one of the oldest buildings in the city from around the year 900.
