One of the goals undoubtedly achieved is universal suffrage: on June 2, 1946, the country returned to the polls without distinction to elect the Constituent Assembly. After 20 years of horror and civil war, for the first time in Italian history, women were able to exercise their right to vote and be elected in a national political election. On Thursday, May 28, at 3:00 PM, at Palazzo Rasponi dalle Teste in Ravenna, this milestone anniversary was celebrated with Silvia Calamandrei, heir to a legal and civil tradition that has shaped the history of democratic values ​​in our country. Her grandfather, Piero, was among the most influential constituent deputies; her parents, Franco Calamandrei and Maria Teresa Regard, left an indelible mark on the Resistance and the resumption of democratic life. She was interviewed by journalist Irene Soave, who was tasked with retracing the steps of a journey that is not yet complete: 80 years after that first vote, how much remains to be done to achieve true and full equality? What role did women play in the birth of our Republic? And what are the challenges and paradoxes of the present? The initiative opened with institutional greetings from the Mayor of Ravenna, Alessandro Barattoni, the President of Legacoop Romagna, Paolo Lucchi, and the Regional Councilor for Culture and Equal Opportunities, Gessica Allegni. The afternoon was coordinated by Elisabetta Cavalazzi, Legacoop Romagna's Gender Equality Representative. At the end, the Community of Romagna cooperatives that have achieved Gender Equality Certification was officially presented, and the winners of the 2026 STEM Call for Proposals will be awarded. This initiative, promoted in collaboration with CIA Conad, offers 10 scholarships of €3,000 each to young female science students. The event, "Women of the Republic – 80 Years of Progress from Women's Vote to Today," is organized by Legacoop and Federcoop Romagna, the National Association of Italian Partisans (ANPI) of Ravenna, and the Circolo dei Cooperatori.
