The Great Aversives Debate
In this video we talk to internationally renowned Animal Behaviour and Welfare scientist Dr. Stephanie Yue Cottee. Dr. Cottee gives her thoughts on the use of aversives in dog training, the difference between studies and surveys and why surveys are not a reliable method of obtaining actionable data, how a proper study in to the use of aversives would be designed and conducted, the long term benefits of training with aversives versus momentary stress, the paramount importance of aligning our definition of what a "trained dog" actually is in order to come to the conclusion of whether aversives are truly "never necessary".
