A Michigan Senator on Trust, Truth, and Taking Action with Senator Mark Huizenga | Episode #59
In this episode of #JessFor30, Ron sits down with Michigan State Senator Mark Huizenga, a farm kid from West Michigan who found his way into public service one nudge at a time. Mark shares the story of how a conversation with his insurance guy led to a planning commission seat, a city commission seat, and eventually the Michigan State Senate. Ron and Mark cover a lot of ground, from the electric vehicle mandate and what it really costs Michigan workers, to AI and data centers, the governor's race, and why people have stopped trusting their government. Mark also opens up about one of his proudest accomplishments in the legislature, a prison education program that turned one of Michigan's most violent facilities into a place they now call Candyland. They also find plenty of common ground on veterans, grandkids, Ronald Reagan, and the importance of just getting out there and trying something new. As always, it would not be #JessFor30 without pickle time.
