Honduras' industrial capital, San Pedro Sula, has once again demonstrated its vulnerability to heavy rains, leaving scenes of vehicles swept away and people trapped. In the La Providencia neighborhood of the Chamelecón sector, residents are facing a human and health crisis: more than 15 homes were flooded with sewage for the second time in a week. Residents directly point to the construction of a new boulevard without adequate drainage as the cause of the water being diverted into their homes. Among the most heartbreaking accounts are those of elderly people and people with chronic illnesses who, despite recent surgeries, had to expose themselves to contaminated water to try to save their belongings.
