YDA DALAMAN'DAN ÇATI GES'TE DÜNYA İLKESİ

YDA Dalaman Airport Makes World First by Meeting All Its Electricity Needs from Rooftop Solar Power Plant YDA Dalaman Airport has become the first airport in the world to meet all of its terminal's electricity needs from solar energy by completing the second phase of its rooftop solar power plant (GES). The first phase of the GES installed on the terminal roof was commissioned in May 2024, and at that time, more than 55% of the airport's electricity needs were met by solar energy. With the completion of the second phase in June of this year, the plant, which has an installed capacity of 14.45 megawatts and covers approximately 74,500 square meters of roof area, has increased its annual renewable energy production capacity to over 20,000 megawatt-hours. This prevents approximately 8,500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, and the environmental benefit obtained reaches a level equivalent to the carbon sequestration provided by approximately 380,000 trees. In addition to energy production, the shading effect created by a total of 25,500 panels integrated into the terminal roof reduces the internal terminal temperature by approximately 2 degrees, contributing to a reduction in energy consumption for cooling purposes, especially during hot summer months. In this way, the system strengthens the airport's sustainability performance through renewable energy production and energy efficiency, while setting an example for similar applications in the sector. Airport operating costs decrease with the solar power plant installed on the terminal roof YDA Dalaman Airport CEO Yiğit Laçin stated that the project stands out from similar projects as it is the first airport terminal to meet all of its electricity needs with a solar power plant installed on its roof. Laçin noted that the project transforms the existing terminal structure into a renewable energy generating facility without requiring additional land, adding, "Moreover, the energy we produce from the terminal roof meets all of our annual electricity needs. In this respect, we can say that our project is a world first."
