How to make a Scuba tank tumbler
Hey Guys, if you have more than a few steel tanks in your collection, there will come a time when you have to get them tumbled to remove rust. My local hydro facility is pretty picky and they don't want to see even flash rust which oftentimes happens after the hydrostatic testing process. In my case I ran an ad in the local paper and received about 5 or 6 tanks FREE, but some needed tumbling so instead of sending them off to be done (read extra $$$), I thought I'd make one myself and show you how I did it. After tumbling I send the tanks to the hydro facility for testing. This do it yourself video assumes you have some basic skills with tools and is not intended to be a complete guide. Some trial and error as well as further research shoul;d be done on your part. Not all motors are the same and some may require additional cooling so a fan may be necessary. Edit: Here is a good resource for those interested in doing there own tank cleaning. It gives the casual reader a better understanding of what is involved and ideas on what additional products can or should be used to clean steel tanks: http://www.ontariodivingschool.ca/tan...
