After hearing him in the synagogue, the people took offense at him, saying: “Where did this man get all this?” Don’t we know his family? Jesus, the carpenter-son of Mary, “was amazed at their lack of faith.” This prefigures the rejection Jesus would receive from Israel leading to his crucifixion and death. But even though they rejected him, Jesus would still share with them the grace of salvation.
