Sourloulou | HILLS OF MY DREAMS | A dance with the Greek sun (Athens)

The recordings follow one after another in the streets of Athens, driven by a light summer wind and the heavy sun. An outdoor subway line, sweat on the train doors, and shoes crunching on hot asphalt.There they are, waiting in the shade. An army of instruments and a rumble of soft voices. The hills of my dreams ⚕︎ Sourloulou crafts its universe like a game, collective and dreamy. Music that is young and old, Greek and from elsewhere, a flower flying in the wind. Sourloulou" is a word used to describe a "mindless" and "immoral" woman who roams from place to place without answering to anyone. Recontextualizing the term and combining elements from rural traditions with contemporary musical forms, Sourloulou bursts forth as an urban serenade, creating post-festival soundscapes. The bagpipe and drum take us to Thrace, the oud, req, and darabuka to the East and Asia Minor, and the clarinet to Central Greece and Thessaly.
