Due to torrential rains, a red alert has been issued for the Wanli River landslide dam in Hualien County. Nearly 200 residents downstream have been preemptively evacuated, and relevant departments are on full alert. Aerial monitoring by the Forestry Conservation Agency revealed that the dam's water level has reached 2.22 million cubic meters, approximately 53% of its capacity. Seepage is suspected downstream of the dam, raising concerns about piping and potential breach. A disaster response center has been activated. The local government has ordered residents to evacuate within a specified timeframe and is continuously monitoring the lake's water level and the dam's condition. The Central Weather Bureau stated that AI-powered rainfall estimates indicate no significant rainfall in the catchment area, and the rain is expected to subside over the next two days; however, the red alert remains in effect. The Hualien County Government announced that if the alert continues, schools and businesses in the affected areas will be closed.
