According to Islamic belief, one is a Muslim if one believes and testifies to it. In practice: It is sufficient to recite the Muslim declaration of faith – usually in the presence of witnesses. It's impossible to say exactly how many people in Germany convert to Islam each year. They are not registered because, unlike Christians, they don't pay church tax. In 2015, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) very roughly estimated the number at between 10,000 and 100,000. 🕋 Converts and Radicalization Especially in connection with the rise of the so-called Islamic State (IS), there has been much reporting in Germany about radicalized Muslims. It is striking that the biographies of radicalized converts have appeared disproportionately often in the media. This has created the impression that converted Muslims are prone to radicalization. However, this is not statistically proven.
