"Not just heroes," all the relatives of Covid-19 victims we spoke to repeatedly told us. Hospitals where the same disposable mask had to be shared among multiple people, and those left without it struggled to breathe and sometimes died. Nursing homes where people were denied water, then admitted dehydrated. Patients and nursing home staff without masks, without gloves, without anything, during the spread of the virus. Food not provided, patients not examined, lies told over the phone, treatments administered without visits, or, conversely, "Don't worry, he doesn't have coronavirus," and then the man died of coronavirus.   The story of the management of the epidemic in Lombardy, told to us by the relatives of Covid-19 victims, is frightening. What we were told was a constant superficiality, and lies as a modus operandi. "We'll call you every day to see how you are," almost everyone said, and then no one ever called back. "It wasn't a question of doctors, who had to work in extremely harsh conditions, but of the unpreparedness of the ruling class, also due to the continued privatization of healthcare. A disaster that cost the lives of our fathers, mothers, and brothers." The narrative of a country ready to face the virus, speaking with the families of the victims, is a collapsing house of cards.
