Why Is Modern Poetry So Bad

NOTE: One of the non poems I included was actually by Thom Young (the guy pretending to be a Instagram poet). Made a quick error there and was kindly corrected :) x While this video is titled 'Why Is Modern Poetry So Bad' it definitely focuses more on slam poetry trends and bad Instagram poetry from the 2010s (but I still think the criticism upholds!). As someone who has loved slam poetry (and was somewhat of a slam poet herself, I've noticed certain trends in online poetry, specifically Instagram poets, Instagram poetry, and Instagram poems) that make me call into question the modern structure of this art form. Why is rupi kaur made so much fun of? Why is Atticus popular? Why are so many Instagram poets the exact same brand of mediocre? I don't really say they're names, but I do basically ask these questions during the video. Is Instagram poetry changing the landscape of poetry? Is this some sort of poetic revolution that will change the face of literature?
