Woodstown Central 9: Steam Freight in South Jersey [4K]

Over a warm weekend in September of 2025, a steam powered freight train once again graced the Salem Branch of South Jersey. As part of the Woodstown Central Railroad's First Responder's Day, a vintage freight train was assembled to be hauled by stout ex-United States Army 0-6-0 "Switcher", #9. Featuring a slew of response vehicles on display and fantastic show of steam and sound, come along as we follow the train as it navigates through the lush greenery of the Garden State in "Steam Freight in South Jersey" by Keystone Rail Productions! History of Woodstown Central 9: Woodstown Central 9 is an 0-6-0 built in October of 1942 by the American Locomotive Company for the US Army, working at Fort Dix and Fort Eustis. Retired in 1958, the locomotive was sold to the Virginia Blue Ridge Railway and hauled that railroad’s last steam-powered trip in 1963. After the Virginia Blue Ridge dieselized, 9 was stored in operational condition until 1966, when it was sold to the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad. The locomotive operated sporadically from in the late 1960's and again from 1976 to 1981. A restoration on the locomotive began in 1992 but then was halted and never completed; with the locomotive disassembled, it was purchased by SMS Rail Lines, who began a complete overhaul to operating condition in 2009. After more than a decade of meticulous restoration, the locomotive finally returned to service on the Woodstown Central hauling the first public excursions in late 2024.
