What will we cover in this lesson? THE SUMMARY OF THE SPIRITUAL LIFE: “Through Christ, with Him, and in Him, to you, God the Father almighty, in the Unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and all glory, forever and ever.” MARY HAS BEEN THE CREATURE WHO HAS WORSHIPPED GOD THE MOST: Daughter of the Father, Mother of the Son, and Spouse of the Holy Spirit. WE WORSHIP GOD ALONE: Catechism, 2096: “To worship God is to recognize Him as God, as Creator and Savior, Lord and Master of all that exists, as infinite and merciful Love. ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve’ (Luke 4:8), says Jesus, quoting Deuteronomy (6:13). BE CAREFUL WITH THE WORD ADORATION: So, for example, people say, “I adore my family,” “I adore my job,” “I adore my career,” etc., meaning that they love, want, or enjoy this. DIFFERENT TYPES OF WORSHIP +LATRIA: Adoration of God (Luke 4:8) +HYPERDULIA: Highest veneration of the Virgin (Luke 1:48) +PROTODULIA: First veneration of Saint Joseph (Mt 1:18) +DULIA: Veneration of Saints and Angels (Revelation 8:3-5) WORSHIP OF THE VIRGIN - Catechism, 971: […] The Blessed Virgin "is rightly honored by the Church with a special cult. Indeed, from the most ancient times, the Blessed Virgin has been venerated under the title of 'Mother of God,' under whose protection the faithful seek refuge in all their dangers and needs... This cult... although quite unique, is essentially different from the cult of adoration that is given to the Incarnate Word, as well as to the Father and the Holy Spirit, but it most powerfully favors it." How can we ask for forgiveness while ignoring the ministers of reconciliation (cf. 2 Cor 5:18; Jn 20:23)? How can we say that we accept him if we reject his Mother, the gift he gave us at the foot of the Cross (cf. Jn 19:25-27)? CONSECRATION LEADS US TO WORSHIP AND PROCLAIMS CHRIST TVD, 225: “For you will never think of Mary unless Mary, through you, thinks of you.” God; you will never praise or honor Mary without Mary praising and honoring God. Mary is entirely relative to God, and I dare to call her the relation of God, for she exists only in relation to him, or the echo of God, since she neither says nor repeats anything but God.” TVD, 61-62: Christ is the ultimate end of all devotion; it must be Jesus Christ, Savior of the world, true God and true man. Otherwise, we would have a false and deceptive devotion. […] “There is no other name given to men on earth by which we must be saved,” but that of Jesus. (Acts 4:12) […] Whoever is not united to Christ as a branch to the vine will fall, wither, and be thrown into the fire. THE VIRGIN MARY, A CREATURE TVD, 14-15: “I confess with the whole Church that Mary, although a simple creature from the hands of the Most High, compared to the Infinite Majesty, you are less than an atom, or rather, you are nothing, because only He is the One who Is […] I affirm, however, that—given that things are as they are—God, having willed to begin and complete his greatest works through the Most Holy Virgin since he formed her, it is to be believed that he will never change his ways: he is God and does not change either in his feelings or in his way of acting.” PRACTICE: Prostrate yourself before Christ and recognize him as your Lord and Savior.
