Title: Permission to Muck About (With AI) Date: Wednesday 03 December 2025, 15:00-16:00 Abstract: In this talk I will discuss how Design Research Works (https://designresearch.works/) has facilitated a programme of Research through Design running form 2020 until the present. The story will including what we learned while making a documentary film about Design Research (https://designresearch.works/permissi..., introducing AI to primary school kids (https://designresearch.works/blog/bes..., and how real-time image generators led to the idea of Prompt Craft (https://designresearch.works/blog/tow.... It's a story that starts with how design produces knowledge and ends up with how that kind of knowledge produces innovative designs. Bio: Joseph Lindley is a Senior Research Fellow at Lancaster University where he leads Design Research Works. His research usually involves practice-based, speculative, and curious engagements with situations, people, and materials. He is passionate about championing the value of Design Research, particularly in harnessing its untapped potential to understand our rapidly-changing relationships between individuals, society, and emerging technologies.
