Building an entirely new base wasn't in the plan, but I'm glad it worked out that way!

Custom Vintage Dresser Makeover | Building a New Base from Scratch What I thought would be a straightforward refinishing project quickly turned into a much bigger challenge—and a great opportunity to learn something new. This solid wood vintage dresser was handpicked from my inventory by a client for a custom makeover. The plan was simple: refinish the piece in the style they wanted. But when I realized the existing trim board couldn’t be altered to achieve the look they envisioned, I had to pivot. The only solution? Remove it completely and build an entirely new base from scratch. Using my router, I created a custom design in the wood, carefully cut and assembled the new base, and securely attached it to the dresser. Once the structure was complete, I moved on to the refinishing process—scuff sanding, deep cleaning, priming, and painting, with sanding between each coat for the smoothest possible finish. Multiple layers of protective topcoat gave it lasting durability. The final touch was a set of gorgeous champagne gold knobs that brought the whole look together. This dresser has been completely transformed—and while I didn’t set out to rebuild part of it, I’m so glad I did.
