Mornings in the family of Maria and Edilbek Abdyraliev begin noisily and lively. Five boys, vying with each other to ask questions, argue, laugh, rush out into the yard, and seem to fill the entire house: "Can I have some ice cream?" "We're on vacation!" "Are we going for a walk?" Amidst this bustle lies the ordinary family happiness that today seems natural and familiar. But this story wasn't always like this. Once upon a time, there was no children's laughter in this house, and Maria herself admits: she never imagined herself as a mother of many children or felt warm feelings for her children. Their journey to this family began with life-changing decisions—and led to them now raising five adopted sons. Today, June 1st, International Children's Day, we have prepared this material to draw attention to an important social issue: adoption in Kyrgyzstan and the journey families take when they decide to adopt a child. Behind each story lies a difficult but very human choice—filled with doubt, responsibility, and hope. These are stories of families opening their homes and hearts to children, and of children who finally find care, warmth, and a sense of belonging.
