ISBN: 978-605-88104-0-2 Ozan Field Derbent Dam Bafra Derbent Dam Lake is located 15 km southwest of the Bafra district center in Samsun province. Built on the Kızılırmak River for irrigation, energy, and flood control purposes, it is one of the most important dams in the region, along with Altınkaya Dam Lake. The dam's role in irrigating the fertile Bafra Plain in the Kızılırmak delta is immense. Built at the most suitable location to provide water to the Bafra Plain irrigation channels at the desired elevation, the dam has opened approximately 2,500 hectares to agriculture. The dam's irrigation area is 47,727 hectares. Trout farming in cages and natural fishing activities at Derbent Dam Lake provide a source of income for the local people in addition to agriculture. The dam's surroundings are also used as a recreational and recreational area. The water carried by the Kızılırmak River, Türkiye's longest river, winding through major Anatolian urban centers, is collected in the dam reservoir basin. Furthermore, the lack of any protection status for the dam reservoir and its surroundings jeopardizes the future of this potential water reserve.
