He then studied musicology, philosophy, and art history at the University of Halle and the University of Saar, earning a doctorate in philosophy. He then served as solo flutist with the Berlin Philharmonic during Furtwängler's heyday for a total of seven years, during and after World War II. From 1953, he trained the next generation of flutists at the Northwest German Conservatory in Detmold. He worked hard to perfect his technique, becoming a professor at the Berlin University of Music in 1971. He later became a professor emeritus at the Berlin University of the Arts. He held numerous seminars in Tokyo from 1985 to 1992. He also taught at Tokyo University of the Arts. [Masunaga Hiroaki] Graduated from the Faculty of Music at Toho Gakuen School of Music. Studied at the Northwest German Academy of Music in Detmold, Germany. From 1969 to 1980, he studied under H.P. Schmitz. From 1985 to 1992, he held annual seminars for H.P. Schmitz.
