The cycle of life often follows this pattern: Sin in our lives leads to oppression, where we suffer the consequences of our sin. Oppressed people then cry out to God in repentance, and God graciously and faithfully brings deliverance, peace, and God’s blessing once again. After deliverance, we all too often forget the Lord, and the cycle of sin tragically continues. This is the story of ancient Israel in the Bible. The book of Judges illustrates this cycle. After the Israelites were blessed with the Promised Land, they quickly forgot the Lord, sinned, and found themselves oppressed once again. In their despair, they cried out to God, and He sent Judges to deliver them.
