But as the mysterious Nightmare phenomenon spreads across the world, rumors begin to surface about a ghostly figure known as the "Zero Nightmare." The truth is far more complicated. During the Nightmare Incident, X eventually discovers that Zero survived and had been recovering in secret while a false doppelgänger created from his DNA tarnished his reputation. The theme "Zero Returns" accompanies one of the most emotional revelations in the X series: the reunion between X and Zero after everyone believed the legendary Maverick Hunter had perished.
