Hi Everyone! Welcome to 4kiDS Television. 4kiDS Television would like to share with you a video how to make a "Parol" - a Filipino Christmas Lantern. A parol is a Filipino ornamental lantern typically displayed during Christmas season. Traditionally, parols have a star-shaped framework made of bamboo sticks which are covered by colored pieces of Japanese paper. The most common form is a five-pointed star with two decorative tails. STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS Timecodes 0:00 Intro 0:27 MATERIALS USED TO MAKE “Parol” - Filipino Christmas Lantern (10) 11" wood skewers (5) 1 1/2" pegs transparent packaging wrap (Amber and Green) gift wrap tissue paper (2) 1” cut-out circle paperboard (2) strings sparkle fuzzy sticks rubber bands Elmer's glue hot glue gun / sticks scissors, wood cutter 0:29 CREATE STAR SHAPE USING 5pcs 11” WOODEN SKEWERS AND RUBBER BANDS Attach 2 pieces of the 11” wooden skewers together by placing rubber bands at one end of the skewers (creating a V-shape). Make two sets. Attach one end of a set with the other set to start creating 3 end tips of the star. Place the remaining skewer across the two V-shapes to complete the star. Glue part of the skewers where it cross each other to secure positions. Repeat process to make 2 sets of stars. 1:01 Place two stars on top of each other and place rubber bands on each 5 end points. 1:13 USING 5pcs of 1 1/2” PEGS TO CREATE 3D STAR Place pegs in between the two stars. Place it where the skewers cross each other. Glue to secure position of the pegs. 1:40 TRANSPARENT PACKAGING WRAP TO COVER 3D STAR Spread Elmer’s glue on the outer side of the star. Place the transparent packaging wrap flat and smooth on top. Trim/cut excess transparent packing wrap. Repeat process until star is all covered. 2:09 SPARKLE FUZZY STICKS Place sparkle fuzzy sticks using hot glue to make it more festive. 2:46 MAKING TAILS USING GIFT WRAP TISSUE PAPER Fold 1pc of gift wrap tissue paper to make triangle (fold it 4 times). Cut a slit starting at the wider part. Cut alternate sides and make sure not to cut it through. Cut tip to create a tiny hole. Set aside. Use another gift wrap tissue paper with different color. Cut it in half. Cut strips lengthwise but make sure not to cut through. Leave about 1 inch uncut to glue a trip of recycled paper board for support. Spread glue on top of the recycled paper board and roll it. This will be he inner tail. Set aside. Cut-out circle paperboard - a quarter size. Cut a tiny hole in the middle. Set a side. Get the short string and make a knot on one end. Insert the string in the tiny hole of the cut-out circle paperboard. Using hot glue - attach it on the rolled strips of gift wrap tissue paper then insert it in the cut-out triangular folded tail. Repeat the process to make 2 tails. 3:50 ATTACH TAILS AT THE BOTTOM PART OF THE STAR Using hot glue - attach tails at the two bottom end points of the star.
