The event is scheduled to begin on Sunday, marking its 39th edition in honor of the North Shore’s legendary waterman. On Thursday, Contest Director Liam McNamara stated that surf conditions are looking ideal for the renowned big wave competition. If you plan to attend the event at Waimea Bay, arrive early and anticipate heavy traffic. The Eddie has only been held 10 times in the past 40 years, with participation limited to invitees only. The last contest took place in January 2023, where city lifeguard Luke Shepardson made history by triumphing over the world’s top big-wave surfers.
