The Real Reason Home Depot Runs Tool Deals

Did you know that more than 40% of first-time power tool buyers purchase their first tools at Home Depot? That isn't an accident. It's a strategy. In this week's Home Depot walkthrough, we looked at all of the latest power tool deals, but we also asked a much bigger question: *Why does Home Depot continue running these promotions year after year?* The answer has very little to do with today's sale and everything to do with creating tomorrow's customer. Along the way, we found plenty of deals worth talking about, including Milwaukee BOGO promotions, RIDGID combo kits, Makita clearance items, Husky shelving discounts, Packout savings, and more. But we also pointed out where the value simply isn't there. For example, Milwaukee's compact M18 drill and compact impact driver kits are currently being promoted, but we've purchased those same kits for around $99 during previous sales. At today's prices, we don't believe they're the value they once were, and we'd recommend waiting for a better promotion if you're considering buying them. We also compared Milwaukee's Packout system against RIDGID's Pro Gear system. While Packout remains one of the most complete modular storage systems on the market, RIDGID continues to dominate when it comes to value. For roughly the price of Milwaukee's rolling drawer box alone, you can build an entire three-piece RIDGID drawer setup. As we walked the store, we also noticed Home Depot continuing to reduce shelf space for both RIDGID and Makita. Several Makita tools—including a right-angle drill, one-handed reciprocating saw, Bluetooth jobsite radio, and D-handle jigsaw—were all marked down on clearance, suggesting more changes could be coming. RIDGID also had some standout values, including the SubCompact drill and impact driver combo kit for $119 and the SubCompact 3/8-inch impact wrench marked down to just $79 in parts of the store. Outside of the tool department, Home Depot is already preparing for the next retail season. Husky storage shelving is on sale, Halloween displays are beginning to appear, and the store is clearly shifting toward the second half of the year. Throughout the video, we break down not only the deals themselves but also the business strategy behind them—and why getting you to buy your very first power tool may be worth far more to Home Depot than the discount they're offering today. If you enjoy honest tool reviews, real-world buying advice, behind-the-scenes business analysis, and a little humor mixed in with plenty of movie references and hidden Easter eggs, you've come to the right place.
