This ghazal paints a bleak and reflective portrait of a society consumed by hypocrisy, ego, moral decay, and self-destruction. The opening verses describe people sitting in every street like merchants in a marketplace, displaying and selling their own identities and values for gain. Amid this atmosphere, the poet turns toward the *saqi*—a traditional symbol of spiritual escape, intoxication, or divine attention—asking for even a brief glance, suggesting a longing for relief, recognition, or redemption. The central theme then shifts toward arrogance and misconduct. The poet warns that the very days spent in aggression, manipulation, pride, and abusive speech are not days of triumph, but signs of inevitable ruin. Every act of vanity and cruelty carries within it the seeds of humiliation, regret, and destruction. What appears as cleverness or power is ultimately revealed as ignorance and moral collapse.
