Meet Charles Leslie. Founder and owner of The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Queer Art. In 1969, now 50 years ago, when the police raided The Stonewall Inn in the West Village of New York City, they were met with a fierce resistance that raged on for six days. Within that crowd of Queer and Trans activists was Charles Leslie. "Once Stonewall happened, that was the beginning of the change," says Leslie. In that same month, Charles Leslie used his love for queer art to make a statement of visibility for gay and lesbian love, in a time where homo-erotic imagery was discredited as pornography. Charles and his partner Fritz Lohman worked hard to collect and protect their art, which because of their LGBT themes would have been devalued or destroyed. Their work eventually evolved into what's now the Leslie-Lohman Museum. This is the story of the legendary LGBTQ+ trailblazer Charles Leslie. #Pride #PrideMonth #LGBTQ #JavierMunoz #Legendary #LoveIsLove Connect with NowThis » Subscribe to NowThis News: http://go.nowth.is/News_Subscribe » Like us on Facebook: http://go.nowth.is/News_Facebook » Tweet us on Twitter: http://go.nowth.is/News_Twitter » Follow us on Instagram: http://go.nowth.is/News_Instagram » Find us on Snapchat Discover: http://go.nowth.is/News_Snapchat Hosted by Hamilton’s Javier Muñoz, ‘Legendary’ is a series that features interviews with LGBTQ+ trailblazers who were at the forefront of history, fighting for and shaping the LGBTQ+ community into what it is today. Thanks to an array of trailblazers — who achieved historic wins like Marriage Equality, the treatment for HIV hitting the market, and the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, the future looks bright for the LBGTQ+ community.
