The allotment is absolutely bursting with life this week—sometimes quite literally! In today’s episode, we have a packed day on the plot, starting with an early harvest. My garlic has officially reached the point of exploding out of the ground, so we are pulling it up today to see how the bulbs fared and setting what's left up to cure. With the summer weather throwing everything it has at us, protection is top of my mind. I’m rolling up my sleeves and building some easy sturdy DIY frames to shelter and support for my most delicate crops from strong winds, sun and pests. Once those are secured, it’s time for a major planting milestone—getting the last of the summer veg out such at courgettes into their final positions so they can really take off. But it’s not all hard graft. One of the best parts of having an allotment is sharing it with nature. Throughout the day, we’re pausing to take notice of the incredible wildlife buzzing, fluttering, and crawling around the plot. From beneficial insects to our resident birds, the plot is a thriving ecosystem right now. Grab a cuppa, settle in, and let’s get stuck into a beautiful, busy day on the allotment!
