Thank you to everyone who has supported my "Flying with You" channel. PHAN THANH MANH Account: 107876542700 VietinBank BAC SAI GON Branch - Head Office ------------------------------------------ The installation of steel components for pedestrian bridges requires absolute precision, including: prefabrication at the factory, transportation to the site, lifting and installing steel beams/arches onto the piers, and fixed connections. These components are often designed modularly to optimize construction time in urban areas. The steel beams, arches, or truss systems are cut, assembled, and welded into complete segments at the factory to ensure quality. For large projects, entire steel arches (for example, the coconut leaf-shaped steel arch of the Saigon River pedestrian bridge) may be temporarily erected at the embankment site (as in Vung Tau) before transportation. Depending on the terrain, large steel structural components are transported by oversized trailers or towed by barges (if construction is on a river) to the construction site. Using heavy-duty cranes (crawler cranes, tower cranes) or specialized hydraulic lifting systems, the steel girders and arches are lifted and placed onto the pre-constructed abutment system. This step requires meticulous coordination of surveying techniques to accurately align the centerlines. After the steel components are temporarily secured with high-strength bolts, workers will proceed with welding the girder (or arch) segments, applying anti-rust paint, installing railings, and pouring concrete for the bridge deck or paving the surface. After months of intensive construction, the pedestrian bridge project across the Saigon River is entering its most crucial phase since its commencement. According to the investor and construction units' plan, in August 2026, the entire main steel arch of the bridge will be towed from Vung Tau to the Ben Bach Dang area for installation onto the two main piers in the middle of the river. This is considered a symbolic milestone, marking the official transition of the bridge from the foundation and underwater structure construction phase to the completion of the main span structure. The bridge's steel arch is very large, with a main span length of approximately 187 meters and a weight of thousands of tons. Direct assembly on the Saigon River would prolong construction time, pose many risks, and significantly impact waterway traffic. Therefore, the contractor chose the optimal solution: Fabricating each steel component in the factory with high precision. Transporting the components to a specialized assembly yard in Vung Tau. Completing the entire steel arch assembly directly on shore. After inspection, the structure will be loaded onto a super-heavy barge for transport to Ho Chi Minh City as a single unit. This method shortens construction time on the river, reduces the number of joints performed at height, and ensures the accuracy of the structure. After completing the preparation work, the steel arch will be placed on a specialized barge with a large load capacity. The transport convoy is expected to depart from the Vung Tau area and travel along the route: Vung Tau, Long Tau River, Saigon River, Bach Dang Wharf. Throughout the journey, several large tugboats will coordinate navigation to maintain the barge's stability, while waterway management forces will regulate traffic to ensure safety. The timing of the towing also depends heavily on tidal conditions, currents, wind, and weather. Construction units will take advantage of favorable weather to minimize vibration and ensure the absolute safety of the structure. The difficulty lay not in the transportation distance but in the process of positioning the steel arch precisely in the middle of the river. After the barge reached the construction site, a super-heavy crane system, in coordination with precision positioning equipment, lifted the entire steel arch off the barge, adjusting it centimeter by centimeter before connecting it to the two completed bridge piers. This stage demanded extremely high precision, as even a small deviation could affect the entire load-bearing structure of the bridge. The highlight of the bridge is the steel arch system, inspired by the image of the nipa palm leaf – a characteristic plant of the Southern Vietnam riverine ecosystem. The bridge has a total length of approximately 720 meters, a deck width of 6 to 11 meters, a main span of 187 meters, ensuring a clearance of approximately 10 meters for navigation and a navigable span of 80 meters. Upon completion, this will not only be a connecting route between Bach Dang Wharf and the Thu Thiem urban area, but also a public space, a scenic viewpoint, and a new architectural symbol of Ho Chi Minh City's center. If the towing and installation process proceeds as planned in August 2026, the project will move into the final stages of completing the bridge deck, installing suspension cables, lighti...
