President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala court battle intensified in the Western Cape High Court as Advocate Dali Mpofu argued that the impeachment process should not be stopped over political embarrassment or reputational harm. Mpofu told the court that national accountability outweighs personal discomfort, arguing that once an independent panel finds sufficient evidence for a prima facie case, the matter must proceed unless the report is set aside on review. He further argued that the High Court cannot interfere with the Constitutional Court’s position and warned that stopping the process would raise serious separation of powers concerns.
