Among the pearls of the Puglia region, Ostuni, also known as the White City of Ostuni, is undoubtedly one of the highlights, where history, culture and tourism are intertwined. One of my favorite places in Puglia. A city rich in history. Why is Ostuni called the White City? This name is due to the fact that much of the historic center is painted white. When you go to Ostuni, you can see the town from afar, it is a white cap rising above the plain. Nowadays it is more a tribute to tradition, but once it was a necessity. Ostuni was hit by the plague several times, especially in 1656, so it was decided to cover the walls of the houses with lime - an excellent antiseptic for disinfecting the area. By the way, Ostuni is not the only white town in Puglia, there are 10 of them, maybe more, and each of them is beautiful in its own way. Now in Ostuni lives about 32 thousand people. The city is located about 80 km from Bari airport and 15 km from Brindisi airport. The train station is located 4 km from the city center.
