ISTORIILE ORAȘULUI I PRIETENI ȘI VECINI. CARTIERUL EVREIESC, PARTEA A DOUA I SEZON NOU #tvrcultural
“My mother, for Christmas and Orthodox Easter, would make cozonac. If Jewish Easter coincided with Orthodox Easter, she wouldn’t make it. And then, as a child, I asked her: okay, mother, but if we are Jews, why do we celebrate [Christian] holidays? And my mother, who was a wise woman, told me: Michiduță, a holiday is every time you have the opportunity to drink, eat and party.” Mihai Gălățeanu, curator of the Holocaust Museum, Great Synagogue in Bucharest. We invite you in this second episode dedicated to the history of the Jewish Quarter in Bucharest, to continue the thread of stories interwoven in this multi-confessional space, where Christians and Jews have gone through historical moments together that brought them closer and expanded their horizons of understanding “the other.” The film follows the family stories of former and current residents of the neighborhood, complementing the somewhat more formal history of the area's landmark buildings, such as the Barașeum Theater, the current Jewish State Theater, about whose past Felicia Waldman, coordinator of the Center for Jewish Studies of the University of Bucharest, tells us, adding how, during World War II, the shows were frequented by German officers, in the absence of other spaces for entertainment. Interlocutors: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Felicia Waldman, coordinator of the Center for Jewish Studies of the University of Bucharest, Copel Moscu, film director, Gilbert Saim, custodian of the Coral Temple, Florin Paraschiv, cinematographer of feature and documentary films, Mihai Gălățeanu, custodian of the Holocaust Museum in the Great Synagogue.
