The yellow flag with three red stripes was first flown at the California State Capitol on April 30th, commemorating the 50th anniversary of Black April. This was the result of lobbying efforts by Representatives Tri Ta, Ash Kalra, and Senator Dave Cortese. These three legislators, along with the community and U.S. veterans, co-organized a commemoration ceremony at the Vietnam War Memorial, Capitol Park, Sacramento. Black April Resolution No. 6 was passed in both the House and Senate. This resolution calls for the statewide flying of the yellow flag with three red stripes as a symbol of the struggle for freedom and democracy for the Vietnamese people. This flag was once recognized as the symbol of the Vietnamese refugee community in California under Executive Order S-14-06 signed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2006 and Resolution 195 passed in 2024. #AprilFestival #VietnameseRefugees #50YearsOfNationalUnion
