A Wedding Film Dedicated to Storytelling and Documentation | Sea Ranch, California Micro-Wedding
See more at https://www.filmsbystanton.com It's been a while since I posted a full wedding film here, and with that could very well come a pressure to come back with a BANG - to post something epic, overly produced, and dare I say "cinematic". While I think this film naturally checks a couple of those boxes in a good way, My return to wedding filmmaking after a brief stint away, especially now having been married and experienced having my day captured in video format additionally, I can confidently say my vision of what a wedding film should be has changed. Capturing the trueness of the day and the story is far, far better than producing a merely hype or epic piece of eye candy. Sometimes, as with this film, it flows out naturally as a byproduct of having a truly amazing wedding in a beautiful location. This is something I'm still learning to do, but arguably my favorite part of this film is the section where they are all getting coffee and walking down to the beach - the unique idiosyncrasies of each person, the dialogue, the "people just being people" together - having now experienced the power of these memories on my own accord, I truly find them beautiful and important to capture. I think I missed the mark for much of my career, and any accreditation or acclaim I gained I believe, to some degree, to have been misgiven to myself while still in a phase of ego-producing epic wedding films. I can't say I regret it though - because 1.) it made my clients happy that hired me for that exact reason and 2.) it has lead me to where I am today - seeing more clearly what I want my work to showcase and what I do not. While I find this world truly epic and worth showcasing, I hope my focus leans more into telling and capturing the story of the weekend as it truly was - as it truly transpired as it does in this film. I hope this mindset keeps burnout at bay - I hope this non-ego driven fuel gives me extended longevity in this career to not take for granted my talents, my ability to film and edit, to feel grateful that I get to travel the world to tell stories of people on the best day's of their lives, or how wedding videography has transformed the direction of my life, both financially and with the people I now do life with.
