I Had Oia's Three Domes to Myself: Santorini in Early May

If you want Santorini without the crowds, go in early May, the week before peak season starts. I had the Oia three domes view to myself at golden hour, paid about half the usual nightly rate, and never once waited for a table. This is part two of my Greece series. After a wedding and a few extra days in Athens, I flew over for a slow few days in Oia: caldera views, long breakfasts, and two very different stays. Where I stayed: Oia Mare Villas, right on the edge of the caldera with a private hot tub and the whole view from the terrace Oia Spirit Studios, steps from the famous three domes Where I ate and drank: Ammoudi Fish Tavern, down on the water in Ammoudi Bay (the priciest meal of the trip, honest review inside) Thalami in Oia, where I went for the view more than the food Barolo in Fira, on the night we bused over to the other side of the island Domaine Sigalas, an afternoon tasting of volcanic-soil wines Lotza, the sunset dinner I saved for the last night If you have been trying to figure out the best time to visit Santorini, this one is for you.
