Dakota - Master Trial 1, 4/18/2026

Our first master run was at Stonehedge Dog Sports, on a day that I was not expecting to run because we were waitlisted. Luckily, we just earned our first Crazy 8’s title, CZ8B, and were waiting for the secretary to customize the rosette. I looked up at the board and saw Dakota listed in the first blind. “Wait, is that my Dakota?”, I asked. The answer: yes! Master is a random draw for how many rats you need to search for, 1-5, with a corresponding number of dirty litter tubes (duds) to equal 8 total tubes in the ring. 5 is the most but also the easiest, in a sense, because, if you are thorough, once you find the 5th one, you can call clear immediately. And yes, you must tell the judge when you believe the ring to be clear. 1 is the hardest because that means there are 7 litter tubes and you can easily second guess yourself (and your dog!) and call the wrong tube. Oh yeah, and you still need to tunnel and climb. You have a total of 4 minutes 30 seconds to do all of that.
