The most feared SS battlegroup of the Battle of the Bulge had fought its way deep into the Ardennes — only to grind to a halt halfway to the Meuse, surrounded in the small Belgian hamlet of La Gleize. WW2 historians James Holland and Al Murray walk the ground across three decisive locations: Stavelot, where American engineers and infantry held the vital bridge; Cheneux, where the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment launched a brutal night attack that drove the SS out of the village; and La Gleize itself — where Peiper abandoned his tanks, his wounded, and his equipment, and slipped away on foot through the Ardennes forest.
