Mercedes F1 Engine - How Mercedes Dominated 2014
The Mercedes F1 engine took a different approach, and their research and engineering has paid off well for the 2014 Formula 1 season. Their engine splits the turbocharger so the intake and exhaust portions are on opposite sides of the engine block, allowing for cooler air and shorter intake piping, reducing turbo lag. This also allows for aerodynamic improvements. Additionally, they've designed a unique exhaust to minimize aerodynamic drag and improve boost performance. Most of the ideas are relatively simple, but brilliantly executed, giving Mercedes the edge for the 2014 season.
