Ifni-Sáhara: La Armada española
#Heartbreaking #IgnacioSarmiento #SpanishNavy Chapters: The Ifni-Sahara War left many lessons. But perhaps one of the most important was understanding that, while the fighting was taking place on land, there was another battle being waged day and night on the ocean. Because without those ships anchored off impossible beaches… without those sailors battling the waves, the undertow, and the Atlantic wind… without the barges running aground under the threat of the storm and the enemy's actions… without the Marines protecting beaches and positions… without the cruisers that illuminated the African night with the roar of their cannons… Nothing would have been possible. The Navy transported men, ammunition, and hope. It kept the fragile umbilical cord open with Ifni and the Sahara. It defended convoys, sustained impossible landings, and transformed old warships into floating fortresses facing the desert. And when the moment arrived… it also showed its strength off Agadir. But, as so often happens with seafarers, its story went unnoticed. There were no grand parades. There was no excessive recognition. Perhaps the glory went to others. Sailors working silently so that others could fight inland. And… they did. And yes, the role of the Spanish Navy in the Ifni-Sahara War was decisive.
